Paediatric Dentistry
Often, many children have discoloured teeth. Sometimes they complain of pain in their milk teeth. A few other children have chronic habits like thumb or finger sucking?
Well if you have encountered any such complaint with your child, then your child needs to visit a dentist soon.
The branch of dentistry that caters to the oral health of children right from their infancy to adolescence is known as Paediatric Dentistry.
We are experts in handling children at Shobhai Dental and Implant Clinic and provide them with special care and attention.

Why is oral health so important for children? The milk teeth are replaced anyways.
Many parents ask us this question. The primary teeth are as important as the permanent teeth. If primary teeth are damaged then the child would have difficulty in eating and chewing and this could hamper the general growth of the child in the formative years.
Dr. Manoj Patil strongly believes that if you teach good oral hygiene practices from early childhood, they carry these habits with them in the future and take good care of their permanent dentition.
What treatments do we provide at our clinic?
We have a comprehensive approach to the treatment planning of the child. We intend to provide both symptomatic and preventive treatment to the child.
The various treatments provided at the clinic are:
- Filing of the primary teeth
- Fluoride treatment for prevention of caries
- Extraction of grossly decayed primary teeth
- Habit breaking appliances for thumb sucking
- Root canal treatment or pulpectomy of the primary teeth
We are known to provide one of the best paediatric dental treatments in Kalyan.
What is pulpectomy?
Just like the permanent teeth, the primary teeth also have three layers of the tooth. The innermost layer is the pulp. The pulp is highly vascular and when the infection reaches the pulp, then the tooth would starts giving symptoms of pain and discomfort.
There are a few symptoms that indicate that your child has acute pulpal infection of the tooth.
These are:
- Pain during night
- Swelling around that tooth
- Bad taste in the mouth due to oozing of the pus
- Pain while biting or chewing food.
- Pain that radiates to the ear or neck
If your child has encountered any of the above-mentioned symptoms, then he needs to visit the dentist soon. Such teeth can be saved by performing root canal treatment
The steps involved in a paediatric root canal are:
Examination
Clinical and radiographic evaluation of the tooth is carried out. If the x-rays show that the pulp has been encroached by caries, then the treatment is started.
Anesthesia
If the pulp is necrosed, the treatment is carried out without anesthesia, but if the pulp is still vital we inject the site and then start the treatment. We understand that children have an objective fear of needles so we devise special ways to distract the child. We make the treatment as painless as possible for the child.
Cleaning of the pulp
The pulp is cleaned of all the debris and the canals are disinfected well.
Filling of the canals
The canals are then filled with a proper filling material. The material used for the primary canals is different than that used for the adults.
Stainless steel crown
The tooth is secured with a stainless steel crown so that it can be used well for chewing.
Space maintainers:
At times, it’s difficult to save a primary tooth. In such cases, the tooth is extracted. To avoid the filling up of the space, an appliance is delivered to the child. This is known as a space maintainer. These can be fixed or removable. The child has to wear them till the underlying tooth starts erupting.
Why should you choose us for the dental needs of your child?
We know that children have a fear of dentistry. We make sure that the child is made comfortable with the surrounding before actually starting the treatment. We keep short appointments for our paediatric patients. Our operatory is very child friendly. We ensure that we give the best to your children.
